Dayak Binua Ethnic



Dayak Bukit Binua Talaga’s population spreads and inhabits the entire district of Pontianak and Sambas. Its native language is a banana '/ baahe. In general their livelihood is farming. From the results obtained rice fields, vegetables and pulses. In addition to farming, livelihood is rubber tapping, hunting, and raising pigs or chickens. Abstinence-abstinence at Bukit Dayak tribes, among others:

  • ·         When giving a birth. When a new baby is born and we are not in the place (not present), then we should not see the baby until the baby is given a name or thereafter held a traditional ceremony batalah.
  • ·         When eating meat is abstinence. If it violated by the villager where the baby is born, then by the whole villager he will penalize with 1 piece conjoined with customary material: 12 pieces of white plate, 1 pig the weigh around 12.5 kg, a rooster tail. If violated by people outside the village, customary sanction is 1 chicken and 3 pieces of white dish. Customary ceremony held at panyugu / shrine village concerned.
  • ·         In the time to abstain from eating meat. When a visit to the home of others, and to spend the night or stay then he should stay there until the time of abstinence meat over, then he can go home.

They have a lot of ceremonies, one of them is batalah. Batalah is a ceremony that was held to name your newborn child. The ceremony was conducted by way of bathing the baby it same as Aqiqah in Islam. The costumes of Dayak Bukit Binua Talaga is same as the others Dayak tribe. When the villager chooses the religion except their ancestral religion, they will expel from the village and never be allowed to back to the village.
Dayak Bukit Binua Talaga believes in Gods and Sacred Item from their ancestors. For the Gods, they believe in two group, they are :

  • The nature Gods: Panitah, Pangira, Pangingu and Pangorok.
  • God of the underworld: Papanji, Gagantar, Mangkuto and Dara Enokng.

And for the Sacred Items are:

  • Parang old and metal-scrap metal for protection.
  • Loggerhead-old crock.
  • Kris / knife.
  • Large stones in the woods, mountains, places of worship for traditional / penyugu and others.
